Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid witnessed the final men’s race of the Al Salam Cycling Championship, marking a record-breaking tenth edition.
DUBAI: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum attended the concluding stage of the men’s desert race held under the tenth Al Salam Cycling Championship. Organised by the Private Office of H.H. the Ruler of Dubai, the event showcased world-class community cycling in the Al Marmoom Desert.
The men’s desert race saw Abdulla Al Ali from the Dubai Residence Cycling Team claim victory in the Emirati category, while Daan Eddyt Soete of Omniyat Shabab Al Ahli triumphed in the Open category. Nicole Louise Frain, also from Omniyat Shabab Al Ahli, topped the women’s results. A total prize pool of AED455,000 was awarded across male and female events.
The cycling championship, one of the UAE’s most prominent community sporting events, featured over 170 participants from 41 nationalities. The Emirati field included 62 riders, while the Elite and Women’s categories drew 90 and 20 participants respectively. Additional sprint challenges and age-group races offered AED80,000 in extra prizes.
Team honours went to Dubai Residence Cycling Team in the Emirati category and Omniyat Shabab Al Ahli in the Open. Special over-40 winners included Naif Al Marzooqi and Grega Bole in their respective divisions.
Director-General Omair bin Juma Al Falasi announced the addition of the Arqoub Al Sadeera Race on 8 February, covering 100 km from Al Samha to Saih Al Salam, extending the championship’s reach into Abu Dhabi. He noted that Sheikh Mohammed’s enduring support has positioned the championship as a globally recognised event.
The Al Salam Championship is held in partnership with key national institutions including Dubai Police, RTA, Dubai Sports Council, and UAE Cycling Federation, promoting a strong culture of fitness and sportsmanship across the UAE.
