KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait missile interception efforts were activated after the country’s Armed Forces announced they had detected and intercepted hostile ballistic missiles and drones that entered Kuwaiti airspace during the early hours of Sunday.
According to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Colonel Saud Al Otaibi, official spokesperson for Kuwait’s Ministry of Defence, said the attacks formed part of what he described as continued Iranian aggression targeting civilian and vital facilities across the country.
He said the strikes hit facilities belonging to Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, triggering fires and causing extensive damage to infrastructure and critical facilities. Emergency response teams were deployed to contain the fires, while technical crews began assessing the damage and restoring affected operations.

Colonel Al Otaibi said the Kuwaiti Armed Forces remain on high alert and continue carrying out their duties with a high level of readiness. He added that all necessary measures are being taken in coordination with the relevant authorities to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and ensure the safety of citizens and residents.
The Kuwait missile interception comes amid escalating regional tensions, with Gulf nations strengthening air defence measures to protect critical infrastructure and civilian areas against missile and drone threats.
Separately, the United Arab Emirates issued a strong condemnation of the renewed attacks, describing the missile and drone strikes targeting the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan as unacceptable.
In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attacks constituted a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the three countries and posed a serious threat to their security and stability.
The ministry reiterated the UAE’s full solidarity with Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, affirming its support for all measures aimed at protecting their national security and preserving regional stability.
