Al Layan Oasis Dubai will enhance eco-tourism and quality of life with sustainable desert experiences and green infrastructure.
DUBAI: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has approved the Al Layan Oasis Dubai project, a major new environmental destination focused on sustainability, eco-tourism, and enhanced quality of life. The project will span one million square metres and include a lake covering 250,000 square metres.
The oasis will be a core feature of Dubai’s Blue and Green Roadmap 2030 and aligns with the emirate’s broader sustainability and urban wellbeing agenda. Designed as a nature-integrated recreational site, it is expected to attract 330,000 visitors annually.
The Al Layan Oasis Dubai development includes walking and cycling paths, elevated trails with panoramic views, and eco-conscious infrastructure. Featuring 14 km of tracks and 1,000 parking spaces, the site also connects to existing networks in Al Marmoom.
Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, said the project is a model of how Dubai is turning environmental assets into sustainable destinations. “It reflects our commitment to quality of life and sustainability,” he noted.
Bader Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency, added that public-private partnerships will be essential in delivering the innovative infrastructure and services planned for the oasis.
The destination is divided into four zones: the Gathering Oasis with an amphitheatre and event spaces; the Family Oasis featuring rest and play areas; the Camping Oasis with facilities for 100 caravans and an education centre; and the Recreation Oasis, offering retail and leisure outlets in a nature-friendly setting.
Part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, Al Layan Oasis Dubai reinforces the emirate’s commitment to biodiversity, desert preservation, and healthy lifestyles. It also supports the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033 by embedding recreation, sustainability, and culture into daily life.
