UAE overstay fine waiver announced for travellers unable to depart due to airspace closures and flight suspensions since 28 February 2026.
ABU DHABI: The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security has announced a UAE overstay fine waiver for travellers unable to leave the country due to regional airspace closures and suspended flights.
Authorities said the decision applies to individuals whose departures were delayed because of exceptional regional circumstances that led to temporary flight suspensions and airspace restrictions.
Under the UAE overstay fine waiver, affected individuals will not face penalties for delayed departures caused by factors beyond their control. The exemption applies to fines incurred from 28 February 2026 onwards.
The policy covers multiple categories of travellers. These include visitors holding tourist or visit visas, individuals with exit permits and residents who had cancelled their residency permits in preparation for departure but were unable to leave the country as planned.
Officials explained that the measure ensures affected travellers can regularise their legal status without incurring financial penalties caused by travel disruptions.
The authority said the UAE overstay fine waiver reflects the country’s humanitarian approach in responding to emergencies and recognising the challenges faced by travellers during exceptional situations.
Specialised teams at airports and Customer Happiness Centres across the UAE continue to operate under emergency and business continuity plans. These teams are working closely with relevant authorities to assist travellers whose flights have been delayed, cancelled or rescheduled.
Officials are also helping individuals complete necessary procedures and resolve residency or travel documentation issues linked to disrupted departures.
The authority emphasised that the UAE remains committed to supporting visitors and residents during difficult circumstances. The country’s approach prioritises tolerance, solidarity and practical support for travellers affected by regional developments.
Travellers are encouraged to monitor official government communication channels for updates regarding travel procedures and regulatory measures related to the current situation.
