Sheikh Humaid’s 45-year leadership marks a defining chapter in Ajman development, spanning education, infrastructure, investment, healthcare and community wellbeing.
AJMAN: Ajman will mark a significant milestone on September 6, 2026, as H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, completes 45 years of leadership.
Sheikh Humaid succeeded his late father, Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, in 1981. Over the following four and a half decades, Ajman development has transformed the emirate across education, infrastructure, healthcare, investment, tourism and public services.
Education has remained a major priority. Sheikh Humaid encouraged students to enter semi-formal education during the late 1950s and contributed to women’s education with the opening of Ajman’s first girls’ school in 1960.

His support later extended to higher education. Ajman University College was established in 1988 and subsequently developed into Ajman University, helping the emirate emerge as an important centre for higher education.
Infrastructure has also changed substantially. New roads, bridges, street lighting, public transport systems, parks and recreational facilities have accompanied Ajman’s urban expansion and growing population.
Economic development has been another central part of the emirate’s transformation. Ajman Free Zone has attracted businesses and investors, while the continued expansion of Ajman Port has strengthened the emirate’s role in trade.
Tourism and property development have also expanded, with new hotels, attractions and real estate projects reshaping parts of the emirate.
Ajman development has simultaneously focused on healthcare, security and quality of life. Authorities have expanded healthcare facilities and services while investing in security capabilities designed to support a safe environment for residents and visitors.

Sheikh Humaid has also supported charitable and humanitarian initiatives. The International Charity Organisation was established in 1984, while the Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi Foundation continues programmes supporting orphans, students, low-income families, senior citizens, people of determination and other groups.
Traditional sports and Emirati heritage have remained prominent through camel racing, equestrian competitions, marine sports and Arabian horse events.
Throughout his leadership, Sheikh Humaid has emphasised the role of people in the emirate’s progress, with education, citizen welfare and the development of national capabilities remaining central priorities.
After 45 years, Ajman’s transformation reflects an approach combining economic expansion with education, infrastructure and community development.
