The new Body Quotidian exhibition at Sharjah Art Foundation brings together works by Laila Majid and Inaam Zafar exploring the body, memory and daily experience.
SHARJAH: Sharjah’s contemporary art scene will welcome a thought-provoking new exhibition this month as the Body Quotidian exhibition opens at Gallery 6 in Al Mureijah Square. Presented by Sharjah Art Foundation, the exhibition features recent works by artists Laila Majid and Inaam Zafar, creating a dialogue around the human body and its place within everyday life.
Running from 13 June 2026, the exhibition examines how ordinary experiences, domestic spaces and familiar objects shape human perception. Through sculpture, photography and painting, both artists use symbolism and abstraction to explore themes of memory, presence and physical existence.
Majid’s contribution focuses on subtle moments drawn from daily routines. Works such as Steam 07 transform a misted bathroom mirror into a shifting visual experience, inviting viewers to become part of the artwork through reflection and light. Her sculptural Blinds series recreates the atmosphere of interior spaces, while the ongoing Chaser series introduces playful forms inspired by cat toys, examining attraction, movement and attention.
Meanwhile, Zafar approaches the body through themes of mortality, transformation and collective memory. His paintings move between figuration and abstraction, creating images that gradually reveal themselves. Works including Mourners and Automatism of doubts use gesture, shape and subtle tonal shifts to evoke emotional states, grief and human connection without relying on direct representation.
The Body Quotidian exhibition highlights how both artists transform familiar objects and experiences into visual reflections on human existence. By bringing together their distinct artistic approaches, the exhibition encourages visitors to consider how everyday environments influence the way people experience the world around them.
Curated by Raja’a Khalid, Assistant Curator at Sharjah Art Foundation, the exhibition reflects the institution’s continued commitment to presenting contemporary artistic voices from across the region and beyond. Through the Body Quotidian exhibition, visitors are invited to engage with works that blur the boundaries between the ordinary and the extraordinary.
