Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi has accepted the patronage of the Magdi Yacoub Institute, strengthening Sharjah’s commitment to global heart research and medical innovation.
SHARJAH: Sharjah is taking another big step in medical research, with H.H. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi accepting the patronage of the world-renowned Magdi Yacoub Institute.
The announcement came during her visit to the Institute’s Heart Science Centre in Harefield, UK, where she met Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub, one of the world’s leading heart surgeons and founder of the institute.
The new role isn’t just honorary. It reflects a growing partnership between Sharjah and the institute to support cutting-edge research in heart disease, regenerative medicine and future healthcare technologies.

Sheikha Bodour said Sharjah has always believed that investing in science means investing in people. She added that international partnerships like this help researchers develop solutions that can improve lives around the world.
The collaboration builds on Sharjah’s earlier US$2 million investment in Heart Biotech Holdings to help develop the Yacoub Heart Valve, an innovative project aimed at transforming the treatment of heart valve disease.
During the visit, Sheikha Bodour toured the institute’s laboratories, met scientists and researchers, and learned about the latest breakthroughs in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.

Discussions also focused on creating more opportunities for researchers and students from the American University of Sharjah, the University of Sharjah and the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SPARK) to work alongside experts at the Magdi Yacoub Institute.
Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub welcomed Sheikha Bodour’s acceptance of the patronage and thanked Sharjah for its continued support. He said the partnership would help accelerate life-saving research, strengthen scientific collaboration and support the next generation of researchers.
The collaboration brings together Sharjah’s growing research ecosystem with one of the world’s leading cardiovascular research centres, reinforcing the emirate’s ambition to become a global hub for science, innovation and advanced healthcare.
