UAE passenger train services begin on June 30, with Abu Dhabi to Fujairah journeys taking just one hour and 45 minutes.
ABU DHABI: The UAE has announced the launch dates, fares and rollout plan for its highly anticipated passenger rail network, bringing the country one step closer to a new era of travel. The first phase of the UAE passenger train service will begin on June 30, 2026, connecting Abu Dhabi and Fujairah with a journey time of just one hour and 45 minutes.
His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, inaugurated the Mohamed bin Zayed City Passenger Train Station and witnessed the unveiling of the nationwide network.
Passengers travelling between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah will be able to choose between Comfort Class fares starting from AED55 and Premium Class tickets priced from AED120. Ticket bookings have opened on June 23 through the Etihad Rail mobile application and official website.
The wider UAE passenger train network will officially launch on September 30, 2026, with the opening of Dubai Train Station and Al Dhaid Train Station. Additional stations in Al Dhafra will begin operations on December 30, while Sharjah Train Station is scheduled to open on March 30, 2027, completing the network.
The passenger rail fleet will consist of 13 trains, each capable of carrying up to 400 passengers. Officials say the project will significantly improve connectivity between cities, support tourism growth, boost investment opportunities and offer residents a faster and more sustainable way to travel.
The railway forms part of the UAE Railway Programme, one of the country’s major infrastructure initiatives under the Projects of the 50. Beyond transportation, the network is expected to strengthen economic links between emirates and support the UAE’s long-term development goals.
Operated by Etihad Rail Passenger Services in partnership with global transport operator Keolis, the UAE passenger train network will also feature modern stations with retail outlets, cafés, restaurants and hospitality services designed to create a world-class travel experience.
