The Kuwait airport emergency plan was activated after Iranian missiles and drones struck Terminal 1, forcing flight suspensions and emergency responses.
KUWAIT CITY: The Kuwait airport emergency plan was activated on Wednesday after Iranian missiles and drones struck Terminal 1 at Kuwait International Airport, causing casualties and damage to several facilities. The incident prompted aviation authorities to suspend air traffic immediately and divert incoming and outgoing flights to nearby airports as emergency teams moved into action.
According to the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA), the response was launched in line with established emergency protocols designed to protect passengers, airport workers and critical infrastructure. PACA spokesman Abdullah Al-Rajhi said authorities were working closely with security and technical teams to secure affected areas and assess operational risks following the attack.
The strike caused disruption across airport operations, with officials prioritising safety while evaluating the impact on facilities. Emergency personnel were deployed across key sections of the airport, while contingency procedures were activated to support essential services and maintain coordination between aviation and security agencies.
Al-Rajhi confirmed that flights would remain suspended until further notice. Aircraft were redirected to alternative airports as part of precautionary measures intended to minimise risks and ensure passenger safety. Travellers were advised to monitor official airline communications for updates regarding schedules and future travel arrangements.
The Kuwait airport emergency plan also includes a detailed assessment of damage caused by the attack. Technical specialists have begun inspections to determine the condition of airport infrastructure before repair work can commence. Authorities said these evaluations are necessary before any timeline can be established for the gradual restoration of normal operations.
Officials stressed that public safety remains the highest priority during the response phase. The Kuwait airport emergency plan will continue to guide emergency and recovery efforts as teams work to secure facilities, complete damage assessments and prepare the airport for a safe return to service once conditions allow.
