The UAE-India partnership took centre stage at IBPC Dubai’s Independence Day celebration, highlighting expanding business, cultural and community ties.

DUBAI: The UAE-India partnership is entering a new phase driven by trade, innovation and deeper community connections, business and diplomatic leaders said as IBPC Dubai marked India’s 80th Independence Day with a major gathering in Dubai.

Organised by the Indian Business & Professional Council (IBPC Dubai) in conjunction with the Consulate General of India, Dubai, the event at InterContinental Dubai Festival City brought together senior business leaders, entrepreneurs, diplomats and members of the Indian community.

Under the theme “Two Nations, One Heart”, the evening combined business, technology and culture. It opened with a digital lighting of the ceremonial lamp activated through a QR code, reflecting India’s digital transformation and Dubai’s role as an innovation hub.

Siddharth Balachandran, Chairman of IBPC Dubai, said the relationship had moved beyond conventional bilateral ties towards a broader sense of global citizenship.

“India-UAE is the future,” he said, while highlighting the role played by the leadership of both countries in strengthening bilateral relations.

Trade and community ties take centre stage

Former Indian Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi delivered the keynote address, highlighting the contribution of the Indian diaspora in the UAE and India’s growing global role.

Dr E. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, Consul General of India to Dubai and the Northern Emirates, said “Two Nations, One Heart” reflected ties shaped by cultural heritage, maritime history and shared values of tolerance and peace.

He highlighted the scale of the UAE-India partnership, describing the UAE as India’s third-largest trading partner and India as the UAE’s second-largest trading partner.

The event also honoured business leaders for contributions spanning banking, logistics, food security and philanthropy. Those recognised included Neeraj Makin of Emirates NBD, Ahmed Yousef Al-Hassan of DP World GCC, Saifuddin Rupawala of LuLu Retail Holdings and the late Vasu Shroff, represented by his son Rajkumar Shroff.

IBPC Dubai announces 2027 awards

The evening also signalled a new phase for the council. Secretary General Dr Sahitya Chaturvedi announced the IBPC Annual Awards 2027 under the theme “Celebrating Excellence, Recognizing Impact, Inspiring Ambition”.

Eight award categories will recognise achievements including business and professional leadership, young and women’s leadership, sustainability, social impact and member contributions.

The cultural programme featured Shriman Dhol Tasha, a Vande Mataram-themed dance performance by Symphony Sargam and “Suron Ki Viraasat”, a tribute to playback singer Asha Bhosle.

Impact to expect

Stronger institutional and business engagement could create further opportunities for investment, entrepreneurship and professional collaboration between the two countries. The focus on trade, innovation and community engagement also reinforces Dubai’s position as an important platform for the UAE-India partnership.
