Dubai Metro will operate continuously for 43 hours to manage large New Year’s Eve crowds; travel restrictions apply around Downtown.
DUBAI: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed that the Dubai Metro will operate continuously for 43 hours to support the massive influx of visitors expected during New Year’s Eve celebrations in the city. The extended operations aim to ensure smooth public transportation and prevent congestion in and around Downtown Dubai.
The metro’s Red and Green Lines will function non-stop from 5am on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, until 11.59pm on Thursday, January 1, 2026. Meanwhile, the Dubai Tram will run from 6am on Wednesday until 1am on Friday, January 2, enabling seamless access to key celebration spots.
The Dubai Metro 43-hour service is part of the broader RTA traffic plan that includes phased road closures starting at 4pm on December 31. These closures will intensify around Burj Khalifa and its surrounding areas between 8pm and 11pm to ensure safety and crowd control.
Hussain Al Banna, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, said that the authority is fully prepared for the New Year’s Eve surge in coordination with the Events Security Committee and other stakeholders. The plan includes real-time traffic monitoring, additional buses, and pedestrian flow control to manage movement near celebration zones.
To facilitate easier commuting, the RTA urges residents and tourists to use public transport, plan their journeys early, and follow live updates. Parking will be restricted in several areas, and metro stations closest to fireworks sites are expected to be crowded.
