Dubai introduces a citywide contactless hotel check-in system using biometric technology, enhancing guest convenience and supporting D33 tourism goals.

DUBAI: On December 9, 2025, Dubai announced the official citywide launch of a one-time contactless hotel check-in system, aimed at transforming how guests experience hospitality across the emirate. The initiative, introduced by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, supports the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, by boosting visitor satisfaction and digital innovation.

Developed by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), the new solution allows hotel and holiday home guests to complete identity and check-in procedures digitally before arrival. Visitors can upload documents and biometric data through their smartphones, removing the need to queue at front desks upon arrival at participating properties.

The data remains valid until the identification document expires, enabling frequent visitors to skip traditional check-ins on repeat visits with only a quick facial scan needed. This approach is especially beneficial in Dubai, where repeat visitors represent nearly a quarter of all international arrivals annually.

Officials say the contactless system integrates smoothly with existing hotel apps or web platforms and reflects Dubai’s broader digital transformation strategy. The service also opens up future applications across other tourism services such as car rentals, streamlining the visitor experience.

HE Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of DET, said the rollout highlights Dubai’s ability to innovate through collaboration between public and private sectors. He added that the move reinforces the city’s global leadership in delivering smart, seamless guest experiences.

The contactless check-in is one of several smart solutions introduced in Dubai’s tourism sector, following recent innovations such as smart immigration tunnels at airports, which have significantly cut processing times.

In the first ten months of 2025, Dubai welcomed 15.7 million international overnight visitors, a 5 percent increase year-on-year. These guests accounted for over 36 million hotel room nights, further confirming the city’s appeal as a world-class tourism destination.
