Sharjah: The Sharjah Museums Authority (SMA) is thrilled to announce the opening of its latest exhibition, titled “The Art of Architectural Ornamentations in the Emirate of Sharjah – A Photography Exhibition,” at Bait Al Naboodah. Inaugurated by Aisha Rashid Deemas, Director General of SMA, the exhibition welcomes visitors starting from February 17, 2024, and will run for six months, aiming to inspire audiences with the rich architectural heritage of Sharjah.

The choice of Bait Al Naboodah as the venue holds significance due to its historical importance, central location, and exquisite architectural design. The house boasts wooden columns influenced by Roman architecture and features designs sourced from India by Obaid Al Naboodah, adding to its cultural richness. Adorned with intricate wooden and plaster decorations inspired by Islamic art, including floral motifs, geometric shapes, and calligraphy, it enhances its historical and aesthetic value.

The Director General emphasized that the exhibition celebrates the fusion of beauty and heritage through various architectural styles, reflecting Sharjah’s identity as a center of creativity and heritage.

The exhibition showcases creative photographs from three talented photographers selected from 85 contestants in a competition organized by the Authority. Ten works were chosen, offering unique perspectives on Islamic art and the contemporary essence of Sharjah.

Among the featured photographs are images capturing the unique architectural narratives of Sharjah, incorporating Islamic elements like floral patterns, geometric designs, and calligraphy. Notable features include the entrance to Bait Al Naboodah Majlis, Bank Street graffiti mural, Sharjah Mosque, Central Souk, and University City Hall.

Workshops aligned with the exhibition’s goals include the “Basic Principles of Photography” workshop in collaboration with the Emirates Photography Society, and a “Traditional Ornamentations” workshop, offering participants a chance to explore the architectural beauty of Bait Al Naboodah and enrich their appreciation of Sharjah’s cultural legacy.
