The Sharjah paid parking timings will be extended until midnight from July 1, aiming to improve parking availability for residents and visitors.

SHARJAH: The Sharjah paid parking system will operate until midnight from July 1, extending paid parking hours by two hours across public parking zones in the emirate. The change, announced by Sharjah Municipality, follows a review of parking demand and feedback from residents and visitors who have struggled to find available spaces during late evening hours.

Until now, paid parking ended at 10pm, allowing motorists to park free of charge overnight. However, residents in busy neighbourhoods such as Al Nahda and Al Majaz said the policy often made it difficult to secure parking close to their homes. Many reported spending up to 30 minutes driving around in search of an empty space or parking several streets away before walking home.

Municipal officials said the revised timings are intended to improve the availability of public parking, particularly for subscription holders and customers visiting restaurants, cafés and other businesses during the evening. The decision is expected to encourage greater turnover of parking spaces in high-demand areas while making access easier for residents and visitors alike.

The municipality said the extension was introduced after studying traffic patterns and parking occupancy across the emirate. Authorities believe the measure will help address congestion in popular residential and commercial districts where demand remains high after 10pm.

The Sharjah paid parking extension applies to public parking zones across the emirate from July 1. Motorists are advised to check parking signs and ensure they pay the applicable fees during the new operating hours to avoid fines. Officials said they will continue monitoring parking demand and evaluating future improvements to parking services. The Sharjah paid parking changes form part of ongoing efforts to improve urban mobility and enhance public services for residents, businesses and visitors.
