DUBAI: The UAE has officially joined World Boxing, the global governing body formed to keep boxing within the Olympic Games. The UAE Boxing Federation is among 17 new national federations approved for membership, raising World Boxing’s total member nations to 106.
This move reflects the UAE’s growing interest in boxing and its desire to become more active on the international stage. With membership confirmed, the UAE is now eligible to send teams to compete in the World Boxing Championships 2025, which will be held in Liverpool from September 4 to 14.
World Boxing was launched in April 2023 to support Olympic-style boxing and to create a fair and transparent organisation. The new members, including the UAE, were accepted after meeting strict criteria. These include strong governance, clear anti-doping rules, proper dispute resolution systems, and official recognition by national sports authorities.
By joining World Boxing, the UAE is showing its dedication to building a strong foundation for the sport and giving its athletes more opportunities to shine globally. This membership also supports the country’s broader sports development goals and commitment to excellence in global competitions.
UAE boxing officials say this marks an important step in shaping the sport’s future locally. It opens the door for Emirati boxers to take part in high-level events, including those tied to Olympic qualification.
As the country continues to invest in sports, joining World Boxing is expected to raise the profile of boxing in the UAE and attract new talent. The federation plans to launch development programmes and prepare national athletes for elite training and international competition.
