The Fujairah tennis championship has brought together more than 200 players from across the UAE, spanning juniors, Open competitors and veterans.
FUJAIRAH: More than 200 players from across the UAE have taken to the courts for the second MADO Fujairah Tennis Championship, highlighting the growing reach of competitive tennis and Fujairah’s expanding role in the national sporting scene.
The tournament has attracted players from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah, alongside expatriate residents representing a broad mix of nationalities and age groups.
Held under the patronage of the UAE Tennis Federation in cooperation with Fujairah Tennis Club, the event brings together young players seeking valuable competition, experienced Open entrants and veterans returning to competitive action.
The programme includes boys’ and girls’ events across the Under-12, Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 age groups, as well as Men’s and Women’s Open competitions and a Veterans category for players aged 35 and above.
This year also marks the introduction of a Green Ball category for players under 10, adding another pathway for young children developing their skills at grassroots level.
Chief Referee Captain Laith Al Ani said the wide-ranging participation reflects the tournament’s growing standing within the UAE tennis community.
“The strong participation from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah, together with players from different nationalities, reflects the growing reputation of the championship and its expanding player base,” said Al Ani.
He also highlighted the importance of providing players with regular opportunities to compete and build match experience.
“Championships such as this give players the opportunity to compete, gain valuable match experience and improve their skills. They also provide a platform for talented young players to develop and progress in the sport,” he added.
The Fujairah tennis championship also forms part of a broader effort by Fujairah Tennis Club to strengthen the sport locally and provide competitive opportunities for players of different ages and abilities.
HE Abdulghafour Behrouzian, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fujairah Tennis Club, praised the UAE Tennis Federation for its continued confidence in the club and for entrusting it with the organisation of major competitions.
The club is also carrying out development and modernisation projects across its facilities and infrastructure, aimed at improving its readiness to host more local and international sporting events.
Those upgrades are expected to support Fujairah’s ambition to build a stronger profile as a tennis destination while offering players improved facilities for training and competition.
As the Fujairah tennis championship continues with more than 200 participants across multiple categories, the event is providing a visible showcase of the UAE’s growing tennis community and the increasing opportunities available to players at every stage of development.
