ABU DHABI: Masdar City has officially launched the testing phase for advanced autonomous vehicles, showcasing its commitment to revolutionising urban mobility and sustainability.
This initiative, unveiled during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), cements Masdar City’s role as a global hub for sustainable innovation. As the Strategic Partner of the World Future Energy Summit (WFES), Masdar City is collaborating with global leaders to advance eco-friendly transportation.
The first vehicle under trial is a shuttle-style electric model equipped with cutting-edge LIDAR sensors and innovative software, enabling obstacle detection, navigation, and independent operation. This marks the start of a multi-brand testing programme to evaluate advanced mobility solutions. Masdar City plans to deploy seven autonomous vehicles based on these trials to align with its zero-emission transportation vision.
Ahmed Baghoum, CEO of Masdar City, remarked, “Testing autonomous technologies is a crucial step toward building a zero-emission transport ecosystem. Collaborating with global innovators allows us to position Masdar City as a benchmark for sustainable, autonomous mobility.”
Solution+, the fleet operator, is overseeing operations in partnership with Masdar City. The trials are part of the city’s strategy to transform urban transportation through zero-emission solutions.
Masdar City’s Mobility Cluster is central to this transformation, serving as a hub for developing autonomous technologies. It facilitates collaboration among global industry leaders, regulators, and researchers to create solutions tailored to the Middle East’s unique needs.
Additionally, Masdar City hosts the Smart and Autonomous Vehicle Industries (SAVI), enhancing its leadership in next-generation mobility. This ecosystem fosters innovation, accelerates deployment, and redefines urban transport in line with the city’s sustainability goals.
Masdar City continues to lead the charge in smart and green transportation, shaping the future of urban mobility.
