RTA has completed 65% of a new bridge to improve Dubai Harbour access from Sheikh Zayed Road, enhancing the Dubai Harbour bridge project.
DUBAI: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the completion of 65 percent of construction works on a key infrastructure project that will provide direct bridge access to Dubai Harbour from Sheikh Zayed Road. This bridge, stretching 1,500 metres and consisting of two lanes in each direction, is part of the emirate’s strategy to enhance mobility and reduce travel time to one of its premier waterfront destinations.
The project, developed in collaboration with Shamal Holding, aims to support the increasing number of residents and visitors heading to Dubai Harbour, which houses the Middle East’s largest yacht marina. The bridge begins near Interchange 5 on Sheikh Zayed Road, passes Al Naseem Street and Al Falak Street, and crosses over King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street, before connecting to Dubai Harbour Street.
Once complete, the bridge will reduce travel time from 12 minutes to just 3 minutes, with an estimated capacity of 6,000 vehicles per hour. Complementing the bridge, improvements are underway at four key junctions along the corridor to further ease traffic flow and improve safety.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said that the initiative aligns with Dubai’s wider vision of building an integrated road network that keeps pace with urban and economic growth. He noted that the collaboration with the private sector, particularly Shamal Holding, highlights the value of joint efforts in transforming the emirate’s infrastructure landscape.
The bridge also represents an important connectivity link for Dubai Harbour, which is located between Bluewaters Island and Palm Jumeirah, and offers luxury living, retail, dining and marina experiences. Current development at Dubai Harbour includes 24 residential towers and approximately 7,500 apartments, with infrastructure supporting future expansion.
Abdulla Binhabtoor, CEO of Shamal Holding, described the project as a significant enhancement to Dubai Harbour’s accessibility and a key step toward creating a seamless, sustainable, and connected maritime community. He praised the bridge as a direct reflection of the UAE’s long-term vision of integrating urban planning with quality of life improvements.
As of now, 90 percent of utility upgrades and traffic diversions related to the bridge construction have been completed, ensuring minimal disruption and adherence to the project’s timeline. The full completion is expected by Q3 of this year, cementing Dubai Harbour’s role as a strategic hub for tourism, living, and investment.
