Dubai RTA introduces a new Permit to Install Parking Shades in Residential Neighbourhoods to support residents and enhance community aesthetics.

DUBAI: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a new digital service to issue permits for installing parking shades in residential neighbourhoods. The initiative, called the Permit to Install Parking Shades in Residential Neighbourhoods, is specifically designed for legally designated and reserved parking spaces across Dubai. The application process is handled via RTA’s website and must be submitted through registered contracting companies.

This digital platform allows applicants to gain the necessary approvals from all relevant service entities through a single unified portal. The parking shade installation permit responds to public feedback received during field visits and customer councils, particularly in light of Dubai’s rising vehicle numbers and high summer temperatures.

According to Arif Shakri, Director of Right-of-Way at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, the installation must not interfere with pedestrian pathways or traffic flow. “The shades must comply with RTA-approved designs and colour standards, without affecting road safety, signs or underground utility lines,” he noted. All installations must be temporary and removable when requested by service entities for emergencies or development work.

He further emphasised that property owners and developers must ensure their installations meet RTA’s technical specifications to maintain Dubai’s status as a refined, modern city. The goal of the parking shade installation permit is to balance residential convenience with aesthetic preservation and infrastructure safety.
