Abu Dhabi: After UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan decided to continue the Year of Sustainability into 2024, the initiative introduces its new slogan “Plan to Action.” This aims to involve the public in four main areas: green transportation, reducing water and energy use, responsible consumption, and smart planting.

The initiative’s leaders launched the Sustainability Champions Society, welcoming people of all ages to share their sustainability stories and take part in events and initiatives across the Emirates. They encourage everyone to submit ideas for impactful activities through the official Year of Sustainability website.

Eisa Alsubousi, Project Lead of the Year of Sustainability, emphasized the importance of building on last year’s success and encouraging sustainable behavior change through community engagement and cooperation with public and private entities.

Throughout 2024, the Year of Sustainability will organize various events, collaborate with different entities, and engage in community projects, such as Duroor Nights and Sustainability Stops. They will also continue legacy projects from 2023, like the Material Lab, which promotes sustainable production and reuse of materials.

Additionally, the initiative plans to launch educational programs for students, teaching them problem-solving skills to tackle environmental challenges.

In 2023, the Year of Sustainability focused on responsible consumption, conservation, and climate action. They provided sustainability guides, organized mangrove-planting events, and collaborated with COP28 to host community-action events. They also showcased UAE’s sustainability values at events like the UAE House of Sustainability and the Actionists’ Hub.
