ABU DHABI: The UAE marked Earth Day UAE 2024 with a strong reminder of its leadership in sustainability through bold, future-focused initiatives. From renewable energy and recycling to clean transport and marine conservation, the UAE continues to lead global efforts toward environmental protection.

On April 22, Earth Day calls for climate action. In the UAE, every year brings real progress. Its landmark clean energy projects are world-renowned. Masdar’s solar work, including the pioneering Shams plant, set the pace. Meanwhile, DEWA’s Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is now the world’s largest single-site solar facility under the Independent Power Producer model. By the end of 2023, 17.8% of DEWA’s installed capacity came from clean energy.

In parallel, the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation has accelerated the clean energy shift. The UAE is also pushing forward on the circular economy, waste-to-energy projects, and smart recycling systems. Dubai Waste Management Centre and recycling champion Bee’ah are reducing landfill waste while supporting sustainable innovation.

Marine conservation is another major focus. “Dubai Reef,” the world’s largest artificial reef project, is underway to protect marine life. In transport, public usage of eco-friendly travel is rising fast — 747 million used Dubai’s public transport in 2024, with metro ridership leading at 37%.

On Earth Day UAE 2024, Masdar City CEO Ahmed Baghoum said, “We continue our journey through public-private partnerships, tackling global environmental challenges with innovation and collaboration.”

ENOC CEO Saif Humaid Al Falasi added, “Inspired by the UAE’s bold 2050 net-zero goals, we are committed to energy conservation and a sustainable future.”

As Earth Day UAE 2024 shows, the UAE is turning ambition into action — creating a blueprint for climate-conscious growth. The UAE isn’t just celebrating — it’s delivering.
