Dubai-based filmmaker Deep Bhatia is gaining international recognition after multiple award-winning projects spanning narrative cinema, commercial production and digital storytelling.

DUBAI: Deep Bhatia, a rising Indian-origin filmmaker based in Dubai, is steadily building a name in international cinema through a distinctive visual storytelling style shaped by editing, cinematography and experimental filmmaking. Through his company, Popsicle Productions, the young creative has worked across short films, commercial campaigns and digital productions, earning recognition at film festivals in the United Kingdom and the United States.

Bhatia’s journey into filmmaking began with editing, where he developed a fascination for rhythm, pacing and emotional timing within scenes. That early curiosity evolved into a broader creative approach spanning directing, cinematography and production. His breakthrough project, Vertigo at Jason’s, showcased that vision clearly. The live-action superhero short, which followed two heroes unknowingly meeting at a college party, drew inspiration from the fast-paced visual language of the Spider-Verse films. The project later earned the Best Editing award at the Massachusetts Independent Film Festival.

Another defining moment came with The Shore, an experimental black-and-white production filmed in Manchester, where Bhatia worked as director of photography and cinematographer. The film relied heavily on silence, framing and atmosphere rather than dialogue, eventually winning Best Experimental Film at the Beeston Film Festival. The experience reinforced his belief that visual storytelling can often communicate emotion more powerfully than words.

Bhatia also contributed as line producer on The Sabbath, a stylised narrative exploring phone addiction and isolation. The project gained recognition at Credo 23, curated by actress and filmmaker Justine Bateman, before premiering on Omeleto, one of the world’s leading short film platforms.

Alongside narrative filmmaking, Bhatia has worked on commercial campaigns featuring football legends Francesco Totti and Patrice Evra while also producing digital content for MIT Sloan and Fast Company during GITEX 2025 in Dubai. As his portfolio continues to grow, Deep Bhatia is emerging as one of the UAE’s promising young filmmakers combining cinematic experimentation with emotionally driven storytelling.
