WASHINGTON, D.C.: A majority of US House Democrats have urged President Donald Trump to withdraw his “dangerous comments” regarding Gaza, warning of serious diplomatic and humanitarian consequences.

In a letter published on the House Democrats’ website, 143 out of 215 Democratic House members expressed alarm over Trump’s remarks, which they claim support the forcible removal and permanent displacement of two million people in Gaza. The letter was led by Representatives Sean Casten (Illinois) and Brad Sherman (California).

The letter stated, “We are alarmed that an American president would advocate for the forcible removal and permanent displacement of two million people. Such an act would not only be morally indefensible, but it would also violate the Geneva Convention, jeopardize US interests and troops, and undermine our global standing.”

House Democrats further warned that Trump’s comments could harm US relations with Arab allies, who remain committed to a comprehensive regional peace effort. They stressed that such rhetoric risks damaging diplomatic ties at a critical moment, particularly when rebuilding Gaza and working toward a two-state solution are key priorities for Middle Eastern partners.

The call from House Democrats adds to the growing criticism of Trump’s Middle East policies, which have sparked backlash from international leaders and human rights groups. The demand for a retraction highlights concerns over US credibility, particularly as the Biden administration seeks to repair diplomatic alliances and reassert American leadership in global peace efforts.

With tensions high in the region, the response from Trump’s administration remains to be seen. Whether the former president will address the concerns raised by his own country’s lawmakers is yet unclear.
