Dubai airport upgrade Click and Travel introduces mobile border processing that can complete individual entry and departure transactions in about 12 to 15 seconds.
DUBAI: Travellers using Dubai’s airports could soon experience even faster border formalities as authorities introduce a mobile processing service capable of completing individual immigration transactions in approximately 12 to 15 seconds.
The Dubai airport upgrade, called Click and Travel, moves passenger clearance away from traditional fixed immigration desks and onto mobile devices operated by airport personnel.
The system combines facial recognition, electronic passport reading and secure connections to official databases. Officers can verify passengers and complete entry or departure procedures using mobile equipment, giving authorities greater flexibility in managing travellers across airport areas.

Importantly, the 12-to-15-second figure refers to the individual border transaction rather than the passenger’s entire airport journey. Check-in, security screening, walking through terminals and boarding remain separate processes.
Click and Travel joins Dubai’s expanding network of automated immigration technology, which already includes Smart Gates and biometric processing at Dubai International Airport. Existing Smart Gates allow eligible registered passengers to pass through passport control using biometric verification, reducing reliance on conventional immigration counters.
The scale of Dubai’s digital border infrastructure is already significant. GDRFA Dubai data shows Smart Gates recorded 24.2 million uses during 2025, while Smart Corridor processing recorded 56,900 uses. The Dubai airport upgrade could provide another way to manage passenger volumes because officers equipped with mobile devices are not restricted to conventional fixed passport-control positions.
Dubai’s airports demonstrated the importance of high-capacity border processing during the busy New Year travel period. More than 1.27 million travellers were processed between December 29, 2025, and January 3, 2026.

Dubai International has also continued handling significant passenger volumes in 2026, increasing the importance of technology that can reduce queues while maintaining border-security requirements. The wider airport transformation includes additional self-service capacity, biometric technology and operational improvements intended to make passenger journeys faster and more seamless.
However, initial information released on September 7, 2026, does not provide complete details about terminal availability, passenger registration requirements or the timetable for a full rollout. Click and Travel therefore represents an additional processing option rather than a guarantee that every passenger will immediately clear immigration within 15 seconds.
Impact to expect
For travellers, the biggest potential benefit is shorter immigration queues during busy periods. Giving officers the ability to process passengers through mobile devices could also allow resources to be moved quickly to areas experiencing increased demand.
The Dubai airport upgrade could become particularly valuable as Dubai’s aviation sector grows and passenger numbers rise. Combined with Smart Gates and biometric corridors, mobile immigration processing could make border clearance increasingly seamless without depending entirely on traditional counters.
