ABU DHABI: UAE leaders have shared messages of peace, mercy and unity to mark the birthday of Prophet Mohammed, as residents also prepare for a three-day weekend. UAE Prophet’s Birthday messages highlighted hopes for greater security, stability and well-being across the region and the world.
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan marked the religious occasion with a message reflecting on the Prophet Mohammed’s values and legacy. His message focused on mercy, goodwill and bringing people together, while expressing hopes for greater peace and stability around the world.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, also shared his greetings for the occasion. He described Prophet Mohammed as a messenger of humanity and mercy and expressed hopes for security, safety, stability and well-being across the Islamic world.
Mawlid Al Nabawi, also known as the Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday, is an important occasion for Muslims and falls on the 12th day of Rabea Al Awwal in the Islamic calendar.
For UAE residents, the occasion also brings a public holiday. Authorities have confirmed Friday, August 28, as the holiday for federal government employees and private-sector workers. For employees who normally have Saturday and Sunday off, this means a three-day weekend running from Friday, August 28, through Sunday, August 30. Regular working hours will resume on Monday, August 31.
The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources confirmed the holiday for federal government employees through Circular No. 11 of 2026.
Dubai has also confirmed August 28 as a holiday for government departments, authorities and institutions.
Some employees will still need to work during the break. This includes people working shifts or providing important public services. Their working hours will be decided by their individual government entities to make sure essential services continue normally.
Ajman Government has also confirmed the same holiday date, with official working hours returning on August 31.
