Sharjah Ruler officially inaugurated Al Majarrah Park after its redesign into a community-focused cultural and artistic public space.
SHARJAH: His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has officially inaugurated the redesigned Al Majarrah Park, transforming the public space into a major artistic and cultural destination in the emirate. Developed under the Sharjah Art Foundation, the project reflects Sharjah’s continuing vision of integrating creativity, public art and community engagement into everyday urban life.
Located in the Al Majarrah area, the newly redesigned park combines recreational facilities with immersive artistic elements inspired by the collective memories and experiences of Sharjah residents. During the inauguration tour, the Sharjah Ruler viewed installations and sculptures based on everyday objects connected to local identity, heritage and cultural storytelling.
The redesigned Al Majarrah Park includes interactive gathering spaces, running tracks, climbing nets, football and basketball courts, skating zones and landscaped walkways inspired by desert dunes and traditional courtyards. Officials said the park was designed to encourage community interaction while offering a welcoming environment for cultural events, outdoor recreation and artistic experiences.
The project was created by internationally recognised artist collective SUPERFLEX in collaboration with Schul Landscape Architects from Copenhagen and KWY.studio from Lisbon. According to Sharjah Art Foundation, local residents contributed to the creative concept by sharing meaningful objects and memories linked to life in Sharjah and their home countries. Several of these objects were transformed into large-scale public sculptures placed throughout the park.
Al Majarrah Park also forms part of Sharjah Art Foundation’s growing portfolio of permanent public art projects across the emirate. These include installations such as Rain Room, Across the Chalk Line and Untitled: Excavation, all aimed at strengthening the connection between art, public spaces and daily community life.
The opening further reinforces Sharjah’s reputation as one of the region’s leading cultural capitals, where public spaces increasingly combine heritage, contemporary art and community-focused urban development.
