Sheikh Zayed Farm Street will replace Al Faghi Street in Al Khawaneej to honour a key landmark linked to the UAE Union journey.
DUBAI: Roads and Transport Authority has announced the renaming of Al Faghi Street in Al Khawaneej to Sheikh Zayed Farm Street in recognition of the historic and national importance of Sheikh Zayed Farm, one of the UAE’s most significant Union landmarks. The decision was made in coordination with the Dubai Road Naming Committee as part of efforts to preserve and highlight locations connected to the country’s founding history.
The renamed Sheikh Zayed Farm Street honours the site where the late Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan held crucial meetings with the rulers of the emirates during the early stages of forming the United Arab Emirates. In March 1971, Sheikh Zayed stayed at the farm in Al Khawaneej for nearly two weeks, hosting discussions that later paved the way for the signing of the Union Agreement and Constitution in July that year.
The landmark gained additional national significance after Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan declared Sheikh Zayed Farm as the UAE’s third official union site alongside Union House and Arqoob Al Sedira. Officials said the designation recognises the location’s symbolic role in shaping the federation and preserving the memory of the country’s founding journey.
Authorities noted that the renaming initiative reflects Dubai’s wider commitment to embedding the UAE’s cultural and historical identity into the urban landscape. Linking roads and public spaces to nationally important sites is intended to strengthen awareness of the nation’s heritage among future generations.
Today, Sheikh Zayed Farm remains one of the UAE’s most recognised national landmarks, representing the values of unity, leadership and vision established by the Founding Fathers. Officials say the site continues to symbolise the spirit of cooperation that helped transform the UAE into a globally recognised model for development, stability and quality of life.
