The EU condemns Iranian attacks on regional countries, warning of further sanctions and urging restraint to protect regional security and stability.

BRUSSELS: The EU condemns Iranian attacks on several countries in the region, describing them as a serious violation of sovereignty and a dangerous escalation that threatens wider Middle East stability.

Following an emergency meeting of foreign ministers in Brussels, the bloc called on Tehran to immediately halt indiscriminate strikes and avoid any actions that could further inflame tensions. Officials warned that continued hostilities risk undermining regional security, energy supplies and international navigation routes.

High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said the European Union is monitoring developments with the utmost concern. She reaffirmed the bloc’s commitment to international law, regional stability and the protection of European security interests. The EU statement stressed that maximum restraint is essential to prevent a prolonged conflict that could have far reaching consequences.

Diplomats indicated that additional restrictive measures could be considered if the situation deteriorates. The EU has already adopted extensive sanctions in response to previous actions by Iranian authorities, and ministers signalled that further steps remain under review.

In its statement, the bloc expressed solidarity with countries affected by the attacks and underscored the need to protect civilians. It called for full respect for international law, including the principles of the United Nations Charter and international humanitarian law.

The EU condemns Iranian attacks at a time of heightened regional tension and warned that escalation could destabilise global trade routes. It also stressed the importance of Iran’s full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and adherence to obligations under the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement.

As the EU condemns Iranian attacks, leaders reiterated that nuclear safety and freedom of navigation remain critical priorities for regional and global stability.
