UAE Rulers have pardoned more than 4,000 prisoners ahead of Ramadan, offering inmates a fresh start and reuniting families across the country.

ABU DHABI: UAE Rulers have pardoned over 4,000 prisoners from correctional and punitive institutions nationwide to mark the Holy Month of Ramadan. The humanitarian gesture reflects the leadership’s commitment to compassion, social stability and second chances.

In Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum ordered the release of 1,856 inmates of various nationalities. Chancellor Essam Issa Al-Humaidan said the decision aims to bring happiness to families and allow those released to reintegrate into society. Dubai Public Prosecution, in coordination with Dubai Police, has begun legal procedures to implement the order.

In Ajman, Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi approved the release of 134 prisoners selected for good conduct. Sultan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Commander in Chief of Ajman Police, expressed appreciation for the directive and confirmed that procedures would begin immediately.

Meanwhile, Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi pardoned 738 inmates serving sentences in Sharjah’s correctional institutions, citing their positive behaviour.

At the federal level, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered the release of 1,440 inmates across the country and undertook to settle financial obligations arising from their sentences. The move underscores the values of mercy and solidarity that define Ramadan in the UAE.

Collectively, UAE Rulers have pardoned thousands of inmates this year, reinforcing a tradition that prioritises forgiveness and community reintegration during the holy month. The coordinated efforts across emirates highlight the leadership’s focus on family unity, social cohesion and humanitarian responsibility.
