ABU DHABI: UAE Public Prosecution warns against spreading rumours or publishing information from unknown sources through social media platforms or any other technological means, citing potential harm to national security and social stability.
In an official statement, the authority cautioned that circulating unverified content can lead to confusion and undermine public confidence during sensitive periods. It emphasised the necessity of obtaining information exclusively from official and accredited sources to ensure accuracy and responsibility.
The prosecution further clarified that individuals who share or repost content from unknown sources may face legal accountability under applicable legislation, even if they are not the original creators of the material. Authorities stressed that accountability extends to all participants involved in amplifying false or misleading information.
“Be aware and informed… Information is a responsibility, and spreading rumors is a crime,” the authority stated, underscoring the seriousness of digital conduct in the current environment.
