DUBAI: Saudi Crown Prince condolences were conveyed to H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, following the passing of his brother, Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, spoke with Sheikh Mohammed during a telephone call on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
What did the Saudi Crown Prince say?
During the call, the Saudi Crown Prince expressed his sincere condolences and sympathy to Sheikh Mohammed and the Al Maktoum family.
WAM reported that he prayed for mercy and forgiveness for Sheikh Ahmed and for patience and solace for the Al Maktoum family. Sheikh Mohammed thanked the Crown Prince for his condolences and what WAM described as his sincere fraternal sentiments.
The telephone call followed earlier messages of condolence from Saudi Arabia’s leadership after Sheikh Ahmed’s death. King Salman and the Saudi Crown Prince had sent separate condolence cables to Sheikh Mohammed on September 21.
Dubai mourns Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid
Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum passed away on Monday, September 21, at the age of 76. Dubai subsequently declared a 10-day official mourning period, with flags across the emirate lowered to half-mast.
Sheikh Ahmed served as Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security and held prominent positions across Dubai’s business and sporting sectors. He established Jebel Ali Racecourse in 1990 and had a long association with Al Wasl Sports Club.
UAE leaders gather to offer condolences
Sheikh Mohammed performed the funeral prayer for his brother at Zabeel Grand Mosque on Tuesday. H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum were among those accompanying him.
UAE leaders, senior officials, diplomats and other dignitaries have offered condolences to the Al Maktoum family during the official mourning period.
The Saudi Crown Prince condolences also reflected the close official relationship between the leaderships of the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
