Dubai Racing Carnival enhances global horse racing appeal, attracting elite talent and reinforcing Dubai’s position as a premier international racing destination.
Dubai: The Dubai Racing Carnival continues to elevate the emirate’s status as a powerhouse in global equestrian sport. As a crucial prelude to the prestigious Dubai World Cup, the Dubai Racing Carnival attracts elite horses, trainers, and owners from across continents, reinforcing its international appeal.
Horse racing in Dubai traces its roots to 1981 at the Camel Track under the guidance of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. This early vision led to the establishment of the Dubai Racing Club in 1992 and the opening of Nad Al Sheba Racecourse, setting the stage for global recognition. The inaugural Dubai World Cup in 1996, won by legendary American horse Cigar, marked a defining moment in international racing history.
Since 2010, Meydan Racecourse has served as the permanent home of the Carnival. Spanning 7.5 million square metres, the venue accommodates over 60,000 spectators and offers world-class turf and dirt tracks, luxury hospitality, and advanced stabling facilities, making it a benchmark in global racing infrastructure.
The Dubai Racing Carnival typically unfolds over 12 to 16 race nights during winter, featuring substantial prize purses that attract leading stables from Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Australia. This competitive environment allows international contenders to acclimatise while competing at the highest level.
Trainer Helal Al Alawi remarked, “The Carnival is a cornerstone of Dubai’s strategy to remain a global racing capital,” highlighting its professional standards. British trainer Ed Crisford echoed this sentiment, celebrating his team’s success with Meydaan, while George Scott emphasised the track’s suitability for global competitors.
As the Dubai Racing Carnival grows in scale and prestige, it continues to strengthen Dubai’s reputation as a leading destination in international horse racing.
