The Supreme Court postponed the Dubai firm’s plea against awarding the ₹5,069 crore Dharavi redevelopment project to Adani Properties until December.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has adjourned to the first week of December the hearing on a plea filed by Dubai-based Seclink Technologies Corporation against the Maharashtra government’s decision to award Mumbai’s massive Dharavi redevelopment project to Adani Properties Pvt Ltd.

A bench led by Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai, along with Justices K. Vinod Chandran and Vipul Pancholi, deferred the case, noting that the CJI would not be able to conclude the hearing before his retirement on November 23. “Our hands are full. How many judgments will I write?” CJI Gavai remarked during the proceedings.

Earlier in March, the top court had refused to halt the project and instead sought responses from the Maharashtra government and Adani Properties following Seclink’s petition challenging a December 2024 Bombay High Court ruling. The high court had upheld the state’s decision, stating there was no “arbitrariness or unreasonableness” in awarding the project to Adani.

Seclink Technologies, which initially offered ₹7,200 crore in 2018, lost out after the government scrapped that tender and issued a fresh one in 2022. Adani Group later won with a ₹5,069 crore bid for redeveloping 259 hectares of Dharavi, one of the world’s most densely populated slum clusters.

The Maharashtra government maintained that the 2018 tender was cancelled due to global and economic disruptions, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war. It further claimed the 2022 process was conducted transparently and fairly, rejecting Seclink’s claims of bias or tailor-made terms.

The project, once complete, aims to transform Dharavi’s congested lanes into a modern urban hub.
