MUMBAI: In an odd mix of revenge and cruelty, a 14-year-old pet dog named Prixy was kidnapped in Juhu in Mumbai by a security supervisor angry over a ₹4,000 (approx. AED 175) salary deduction. He then demanded ₹25,000 (approx. AED 1,095) to return the dog safely.
The accused, allegedly abducted the dog on April 15. CCTV footage shows him walking away with Prixy, who needs daily medication for arthritis. He had returned to his post just eight days before the incident after a month-long absence.
According to the FIR, Pandharkar disappeared with Prixy after the Joshi family, who owns the dog, sent him for the usual morning walk. “Prixy has been with us for 14 years. She’s family,” said Aditi Joshi. When the dog didn’t return, the family tried calling Pandharkar. His phone was switched off.

Worried and desperate, they searched areas across Juhu, Vile Parle, and Andheri suburbs in Mumbai. They even reached out to Prixy’s long-time vet, Dr Hitesh Swali, who warned that missing her medication could worsen her condition rapidly.
Prixy suffers from age-related arthritis and needs two injections monthly along with daily oral medication.
The family learned that Pandharkar, upset over ₹4,000 (AED 175) being cut from his salary, decided to hold the dog hostage for ₹25,000 (AED 1,095). The ransom call came shortly after Prixy went missing.
Footage from the railway station shows the accused boarding a train. A manhunt is underway in coordination with railway police.
This strange and emotional case has shocked local residents, raising concerns over pet safety and the rising frustration among low-income workers.
