Flying Canvas aircraft showcases Indian art globally as Air India Express launches its first full art-wrapped Boeing 737-8.
DUBAI: Air India Express has introduced its latest Flying Canvas aircraft, marking a major step in showcasing Indian art and culture through aviation.
The airline unveiled a specially designed Boeing 737-8 aircraft featuring a full-body art wrap created by contemporary artist Osheen Siva. The initiative is part of its ongoing cultural programme and reflects a broader effort to connect travel with artistic expression.
Developed in collaboration with the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, the Flying Canvas aircraft transforms the plane into a moving art installation. The artwork presents a Tamil figure symbolising heritage, identity and continuity, blending traditional elements with modern interpretation.
The airline stated that the Flying Canvas aircraft is an extension of its Tales of India initiative, launched in 2023 to highlight indigenous crafts, textiles and traditions. Previous aircraft designs have featured themes inspired by classical art forms and cultural landmarks across India.
With this latest addition, the Flying Canvas aircraft becomes India’s first full-aircraft contemporary art wrap. The airline aims to take this cultural narrative across more than 60 destinations, allowing passengers and global audiences to engage with Indian heritage in a unique format.
Officials noted that the initiative reflects a growing trend of integrating art into everyday experiences, including travel. By combining aviation and culture, the project seeks to create deeper connections between people, places and traditions.
The Flying Canvas aircraft also reinforces the airline’s positioning as a culturally driven brand, using visual storytelling to enhance the travel experience. As it enters service, the aircraft is expected to serve as both a commercial carrier and a platform for artistic expression.
