DOHA: Qatar shoots down Iranian jets and intercepts missiles and drones targeting the country, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defense on Monday.
The ministry, in remarks carried by the Qatar News Agency, said the Qatar Amiri Air Force downed two Sukhoi Su-24 fighter jets approaching from Iran. Air defence systems also intercepted seven ballistic missiles aimed at multiple locations across the country.
In addition, five drones were brought down by the air force and the Amiri Naval Forces after they targeted various sites. Officials confirmed that all projectiles were intercepted before reaching their intended targets, in line with operational plans activated immediately after the threats were detected.
The ministry stated that the armed forces acted swiftly to neutralise the threats, preventing casualties and infrastructure damage. Authorities emphasised that defence systems were fully prepared and responded in accordance with established procedures.
As Qatar shoots down Iranian jets and intercepts missiles, the Ministry of Defense stressed that the Qatar Armed Forces possess the full capabilities required to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity. It reiterated the country’s readiness to respond firmly to any external threat.
Officials also urged citizens, residents and visitors to remain calm and follow instructions issued by security authorities. The ministry called on the public to rely solely on official sources for accurate updates and avoid spreading unverified information.
