The Kuwait attacks reportedly targeted three northern border posts and an offshore oil platform, with authorities confirming one worker was injured and security forces placed on high alert.

KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait’s Ministry of Defence has announced that three land border posts in the north of the country and an offshore oil facility were targeted in separate incidents on Sunday, prompting an immediate security response and heightened military readiness.

According to the Kuwait attacks statement issued through the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the Ministry described the incidents as a “malicious act of aggression”. Officials said the attacks caused material damage to an offshore drilling platform and left one worker injured.

The Ministry confirmed that the injured employee was working on a Kuwait Oil Company offshore drilling platform located within Kuwait’s territorial waters. The worker received medical attention following the incident and is undergoing the necessary treatment. Authorities have not released further details about the individual’s condition.

What happened?

The Ministry of Defence said three land border posts in northern Kuwait were targeted during the incident. At the same time, what it described as an enemy drone struck the offshore drilling platform operated by Kuwait Oil Company.

While officials confirmed material damage to the facility, they did not immediately provide details about the extent of the damage or whether oil production had been affected.

Colonel Saud Al Atwan, the Ministry’s official spokesperson, said the relevant authorities responded immediately after the incidents were reported. He added that security agencies are coordinating closely to manage the situation and assess its impact.

The Ministry did not identify who it believes was responsible for the reported attacks, and no independent verification of the claims had been announced at the time of the statement.

How is Kuwait responding?

Colonel Al Atwan said the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces has remained on high alert and continues implementing all necessary security measures to protect the country’s territory and national interests.

The military is also working with other government agencies to monitor developments and strengthen security around strategic infrastructure, particularly energy facilities and border areas.

The Kuwait attacks come amid heightened regional tensions, with several Gulf countries maintaining increased security readiness in response to evolving developments across the Middle East. Regional governments have reinforced surveillance and defence systems in recent days to safeguard critical infrastructure and civilian populations.

Kuwait has not announced any changes to public safety measures, but officials continue monitoring the situation closely. Authorities have urged residents to follow information released through official government channels and avoid sharing unverified reports on social media.

The Ministry of Defence reiterated its commitment to protecting the country’s sovereignty and maintaining national security. It added that the armed forces remain fully prepared to respond to any further developments while coordinating with relevant authorities to ensure the safety of citizens, residents and strategic facilities.
