Fili Heritage Souq opens in Sharjah’s central region as part of wider development preserving heritage and supporting community growth.
SHARJAH: Fili Heritage Souq officially opened on Sunday morning under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. Spanning 2,065 square metres, the new market forms part of the broader Fili Heritage development strategy aimed at strengthening cultural identity while advancing community services.
During the inauguration, His Highness highlighted that development in Sharjah follows a clear methodology that preserves values, heritage and social cohesion. He noted that projects in the central region are designed to serve all segments of society, ensuring balanced social, cultural and economic growth. Fili Heritage Souq reflects this vision by combining commercial activity with cultural preservation.
The Ruler emphasised the emirate’s commitment to human development, referencing programmes that support citizens from early childhood through to family formation and housing. He also pointed to initiatives that nurture future leaders and innovators through specialised institutions serving different age groups.
Fili Heritage Souq features 13 shops and five kiosks offering handicrafts and local products, including perfumes, incense, camping equipment and souvenirs. The market also includes an interactive pottery workshop that introduces visitors to traditional ceramic techniques, from shaping clay by hand or wheel to decorative engraving inspired by the region’s environment.
A dedicated coffee house showcases the preparation of Arabic coffee, displaying traditional tools such as the mihamas, mihbash and dallah, while explaining their cultural significance. Architecturally, the market reflects the local desert environment, incorporating areesh palm frond structures, clay and stone bricks, carved wood and Islamic geometric patterns.
With multiple entrances and 156 parking spaces, Fili Heritage Souq strengthens the central region’s cultural and tourism appeal while preserving authentic Emirati heritage.
