UAE intensifies nationwide mosquito eradication after heavy rainfall in efforts against infestation
Mon 06 May 2024Abu Dhabi: The UAE is ramping up efforts mosquito eradication following heavy rainfall. The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) is leading the charge in collaboration with the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) and local authorities across the emirates.
This initiative, part of the Anti-Mosquito Campaign’s third phase, commenced in February 2022 and will extend until May 2025. Its primary goal is to eradicate mosquito breeding grounds, crucial due to increased rainfall, which creates favorable conditions for mosquito proliferation.
Alia Abdul Rahim Al Harmoudi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Sustainable Communities Sector at MOCCAE, highlights mosquito control as a top priority. The ministry aims to provide necessary information and support to the public through various communication channels, utilizing its resources and trained teams to combat mosquito proliferation.

Dr. Saif Juma Al Dhaheri, Director of the National Operations Centre of NCEMA, stresses the importance of national collaboration to address health risks effectively. The campaign focuses on prevention, education, and eliminating breeding sites.
Othaibah Saeed AlQaydi, Director of Municipal Affairs Management at MOCCAE, emphasizes the use of safe, non-toxic solutions in combating mosquitoes. The campaign employs advanced technical methods while ensuring the safety of humans and animals.
Overall, the UAE’s comprehensive approach involves rigorous monitoring, community engagement, and the deployment of safe, effective measures to combat mosquito infestation and minimize public health risks.
