MUMBAI: Bhootam Bhayyam is heading to streaming on September 25, 2026, bringing together horror, comedy and a mysterious ancient coin that promises wealth but comes with a dangerous centuries-old curse.
The Marathi horror-comedy will stream exclusively on Zee5 Global. Directed by debutant filmmaker Ramchandra Gaonkar, the film stars Chhaya Kadam, Pushkaraj Chirputkar, Karan Sonawane, Neel Salekar, Saurabh Ghadge and Shubham Jadhav, alongside Priyadarshan Jadhav, Manmeet Pem and Sidhant Sarfare.
At the centre of the story are seven unemployed friends who discover an ancient coin believed to possess an extraordinary power: it can turn anything into gold.
Seeing the mysterious object as their route to instant wealth, the group ventures into Raniwada, an abandoned mansion hiding dark secrets. Their pursuit of fortune soon takes a supernatural turn when they discover that the coin is connected to a centuries-old curse.
The situation becomes more troubling when their friend Gaja mysteriously disappears, forcing the group to confront the strange forces surrounding them while searching for answers.
Bhootam Bhayyam combines this supernatural mystery with comic situations and adventure rather than following a conventional horror format. Friendship, greed and survival form key parts of the story as the characters discover the consequences of chasing easy fortune.
The film is presented by Zee Studios Marathi and produced under the Kyra Kumar Creations banner.
For Gaonkar, the project marks his feature-film directorial debut. Speaking about the film, he said he wanted to create a story that could “genuinely entertain audiences” while combining horror, comedy and adventure.
Kadam described working on the film as “a very different experience”, highlighting its combination of humour, mystery and supernatural elements.
Chirputkar, meanwhile, said the unpredictability of the film’s world attracted him to the project, with the characters’ relationships changing as the mystery surrounding them develops.
The September release adds another regional-language title to Zee5 Global’s streaming catalogue and gives Marathi cinema audiences a genre-blending option built around an ensemble cast.
With its cursed coin, abandoned mansion and group of friends caught between the prospect of riches and supernatural danger, the film is positioning itself as a light-hearted horror adventure with mystery at its core.
