A spokesperson confirmed the suspension on September 22, but did not provide a reopening date or publicly state the reason for the decision.
The pause comes as Dubai observes a 10-day official mourning period following the death of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The mourning period began on September 21 and continues until September 30. During such periods, live entertainment in the emirate is typically cancelled or postponed as a mark of respect.
Separate local reporting has linked the fountain suspension directly to the mourning period and says performances are expected to remain paused until September 30. However, visitors should check for a fresh official update before travelling specifically to see the show.

The suspension concerns the fountain performances at Burj Lake beside Dubai Mall. It should not be interpreted as a closure of Dubai Mall itself, which continues to publish its normal retail, dining and entertainment opening hours.
Under its usual schedule, the attraction stages afternoon performances and evening shows every 30 minutes between 6pm and 11pm. The Dubai Mall website was still displaying those regular Dubai Fountain shows when checked on September 22, despite the separately confirmed suspension.
