Kanye West’s first India concert in New Delhi was cancelled after organisers cited official directives and safety concerns ahead of the event.
NEW DELHI: Rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, will no longer perform in India after organisers officially cancelled his planned concert in New Delhi just days before the scheduled show. The performance was set to take place on May 23 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and would have marked the artist’s first-ever live concert in the country.
Event organisers announced the cancellation through an Instagram statement, saying official directives and safety considerations led to the decision. The statement added that protecting attendees and the wider public remained the highest priority during what organisers described as a sensitive period.
The Kanye West India concert had originally been planned for March 29 before being rescheduled to May 23. Organisers said months of preparation had gone into developing what was expected to become one of the largest live entertainment productions staged in India this year.
“We are deeply disheartened to announce that Ye Live in India, scheduled for 23rd May 2026 in New Delhi, will not be able to proceed due to directives issued by officials,” the organisers stated in their announcement. They also thanked fans, production teams, partners and supporters who had backed the event throughout the planning process.
The cancellation quickly triggered disappointment among music fans across social media, with many users expressing frustration after waiting months for the rapper’s India debut. Ticket holders are expected to receive additional information regarding refunds and related arrangements in the coming days.
Ye remains one of the most influential and controversial figures in global hip-hop and entertainment. The rapper gained international recognition in 2003 with the release of “Through the Wire” before launching a successful music career through albums and hit tracks including “Bound 2”, “Hurricane” and “N****s in Paris”.
