DUBAI: Virat Kohli’s brilliant unbeaten century led India to a six-wicket victory over Pakistan in their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Group A clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. With Pakistan posting 241 all out in 50 overs, India chased down the target in style to secure a crucial win.
Pakistan, struggling with injuries to key players, saw their innings falter early. Babar Azam (23 off 26) and Imam-ul-Haq (10 off 26) were dismissed early, putting pressure on Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan to rebuild. Despite their valiant efforts, Pakistan’s innings was marked by constant setbacks.
After opting to bat, Pakistan’s top order fell apart. Hardik Pandya dismissed Babar Azam, and Imam-ul-Haq was run out, leaving Pakistan at 47/2 by the end of the first powerplay. Shakeel and Rizwan then steadied the ship, with Shakeel scoring a crucial 62 off 76 and Rizwan contributing 46 off 77 before being dismissed by Axar Patel in the 35th over.
India’s bowlers, led by Kuldeep Yadav (3/40) and Pandya (2/31), picked up wickets regularly. Axar Patel, Jadeja, and Harshit Rana also made vital contributions to break the partnerships. Khushdil Shah’s late surge (38 off 39) helped Pakistan reach 241.
India’s chase was anchored by Kohli’s masterful knock. His composure ensured India crossed the line with ease, securing their second consecutive win in the tournament and boosting their hopes of advancing to the semi-finals.
