DUBAI: Virat Kohli has once again rewritten cricketing history, breaking the record by becoming the fastest batter to reach 14,000 ODI runs. The milestone came today, on February 23, during India’s high-voltage ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash against Pakistan. Kohli, under pressure after a poor outing in the previous match, smashed a stunning boundary off Haris Rauf to achieve the feat in just 287 innings, shattering Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 350 innings.

This achievement cements Kohli’s place among ODI greats, with only Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara previously breaching the 14,000-run mark. Despite intense scrutiny over his form—having fallen cheaply against Bangladesh—Kohli walked in with determination, unfazed by the stakes.

Fastest to 14,000 ODI runs

Virat Kohli – 287 innings (vs Pakistan, Dubai, 2025)

Sachin Tendulkar – 350 innings (vs Pakistan, Peshawar, 2006)

Kumar Sangakkara – 378 innings (vs Australia, Sydney, 2015)

Kohli’s innings began with a steady start, taking two runs off Naseem Shah’s second delivery. He quickly settled in, rotating strike efficiently and building momentum. The turning point came in the 12th over, when he drove Rauf through the covers for a signature boundary, reaching the 14,000-run milestone. The Dubai crowd erupted in celebration as Kohli followed it up with another exquisite four, announcing his return to form.

The Indian innings saw Kohli and Shubman Gill stitch together a 69-run partnership after early trouble, stabilising the chase following Rohit Sharma’s dismissal for 20 (15) to Shaheen Afridi. With this landmark knock, Kohli reaffirmed why he remains India’s most dependable match-winner.
