OpenAI has integrated Codex into the ChatGPT mobile app, allowing developers to manage coding tasks remotely on smartphones.

NEW DELHI: OpenAI has expanded the capabilities of its ChatGPT mobile application by integrating Codex, the company’s AI-powered coding assistant, into iOS and Android devices. The update allows developers to manage, monitor and approve coding tasks remotely through smartphones without needing constant desktop access.

The new OpenAI Codex mobile integration is being introduced in preview mode across supported regions for users on Free, Go and paid ChatGPT plans. According to the company, the feature enables smartphones to connect directly with machines running Codex, including laptops, remote development environments, Mac minis and dedicated devboxes.

OpenAI said developers can review outputs, approve commands, switch AI models and monitor coding threads directly from the ChatGPT mobile application. Real-time updates including screenshots, terminal outputs, test results and code differences are automatically synchronised to the app while files, permissions and credentials remain secured on the connected machine.

The company revealed that more than four million users are already using Codex every week as demand for AI-assisted software development continues growing globally. Industry analysts say the OpenAI Codex mobile integration reflects increasing competition among AI companies to build more advanced productivity ecosystems for developers and enterprise users.

OpenAI also confirmed that remote SSH support and workflow hooks are now available across all plans. In addition, enterprise and business users can access new programmatic access tokens designed for more advanced integrations and automation workflows.

The company further announced that eligible ChatGPT Enterprise workspaces will support HIPAA-compliant Codex usage in local environments, potentially expanding AI-assisted development opportunities for healthcare and enterprise sectors requiring stricter privacy standards.

Support for connecting Codex to Windows systems through the mobile app is expected to arrive soon. Technology observers say the latest update highlights OpenAI’s broader strategy of positioning ChatGPT as a full-scale productivity platform beyond conversational AI tools.
