Dubai’s RTA has completed 60% of the Oud Maitha Road and Al Asayel Street development, enhancing traffic flow and connectivity across the Sheikh Rashid Corridor.

DUBAI: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that 60 per cent of the Oud Maitha Road and Al Asayel Street development project has been completed as part of the broader Sheikh Rashid Corridor Development Project. The initiative is designed to enhance connectivity between Al Asayel Street and Al Khail Road via Al Wasl Club Street, and to provide a dedicated traffic exit to Oud Maitha Road.

The project scope includes the development of four major intersections, construction of bridges spanning approximately 4.3 km, and new road extensions totaling 14 km. Once completed, the upgraded corridor is expected to serve more than 420,000 residents by 2030, significantly improving daily mobility and supporting overall urban growth.

The contractor has completed 70 per cent of the bridge works that serve northbound traffic from Al Asayel Street to Al Khail Road towards the Business Bay Crossing. Preparations are underway to open this section in the first quarter of the year. Approximately 60 per cent of the tunnel construction works, which will serve traffic moving from Dubai–Al Ain Road towards Al Wasl Club Street, have also been finalised. Remaining road widening and associated bridge structures are progressing and are scheduled to open in the third quarter of the year.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said the project aligns with leadership directives to support urban expansion and population growth. He highlighted that the development not only increases road capacity but also significantly reduces travel time across key corridors.

The first major intersection upgrade includes the Oud Maitha Road–Sheikh Rashid Road intersection, where a new left‑turn slip ramp will allow vehicles from Oud Maitha Road to merge onto Sheikh Rashid Road towards Al Garhoud Bridge. Service roads along Sheikh Rashid Road between the existing bridge and Al Zahrawi Street exit were also improved, and right‑turn lanes from Sheikh Rashid Road to Oud Maitha Road have been expanded to increase capacity.

The second intersection upgrade sees the construction of two new bridges linking Al Asayel Street with Al Khail Road via Al Wasl Club Street. One bridge will support traffic from Al Asayel Street to Al Wasl Club Street, while the second will serve traffic from Al Khail Road towards Al Asayel Road. A separate two‑lane bridge will support left‑turn movements from Al Asayel Street towards Oud Maitha Road.

At the third intersection, a two‑lane bridge will serve traffic from Al Asayel Street to Al Khail Road heading towards Business Bay Crossing. Works also include the upgrade of Al Wasl Club Street, adding service roads and dedicated parking to enhance traffic flow and accessibility in the area.

The fourth intersection involves the Zabeel Palace Street junction with Al Khail and Oud Maitha Roads, where a new left‑turn slip lane will double capacity. The scope also includes a single‑lane tunnel to address traffic overlap and expand capacity on existing bridges from two to three lanes.

Upon full completion, the project will boost the capacity of Oud Maitha Road from 10,400 vehicles per hour in both directions to 15,600 vehicles per hour, and reduce average journey times from 20 minutes to just 5 minutes, representing an overall improvement of approximately 75 per cent.
