Dubai’s RTA finishes traffic expansion works on Al Warqa’a 1 Street from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road to Ras Al Khor Road, improving flow and safety.
DUBAI: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed extensive traffic expansion works on Al Warqa’a 1 Street, covering approximately 7 km in both directions between Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Ras Al Khor Road. This project is part of the authority’s ongoing efforts to improve mobility, enhance road safety, and elevate residents’ quality of life across the emirate.
The upgrade included converting four roundabouts into smart signalised intersections, which has contributed to an improvement in traffic flow by up to 30 per cent. The expansion works also featured an integrated package of infrastructure enhancements including a 6,600‑metre stormwater drainage network, 324 new street lighting poles with advanced systems, and 111 additional parking spaces.
In addition to vehicle‑focused improvements, RTA constructed pedestrian pathways spanning 41,000 square metres to create safer and more accessible routes for walkers. These measures support RTA’s commitment to a comprehensive road network that serves all users, from drivers to pedestrians.
Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at the Traffic and Roads Agency, noted that the project builds on earlier works completed in June 2025. That phase included new entry and exit points to Al Warqa’a from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road and improvement works along 13th Street, extending approximately 8 km in both directions. These efforts were designed to improve access for residents and school users in the area.
Al Shehhi emphasised that RTA remains committed to developing integrated infrastructure, including roads, street lighting, and efficient stormwater systems, in line with Dubai’s population growth and urban development targets. He highlighted the authority’s focus on delivering projects that align with residents’ aspirations for an advanced and sustainable urban environment.
Beyond Al Warqa’a 1, RTA is progressing other development projects in the area, such as upgrading internal road networks in Al Warqa’a 3 and Al Warqa’a 4. These will include new paving, pedestrian pathways, parking facilities, and the development of cycling tracks to enhance connectivity with neighbouring areas and support alternative and sustainable modes of mobility.
In October last year, RTA held an interactive session with residents and visitors of Mirdif and Al Warqa’a to share updates on the Dubai Metro Blue Line project and road network enhancements. The session highlighted traffic diversions planned during various stages of the project and reflected RTA’s commitment to engaging with the community, listening to feedback, and turning insights into practical improvements that support everyday mobility.
