EN-WWF organises field activities for nature lovers

Every winter, Emirates Nature-WWF (EN-WWF) organises a slew of outdoor activities under their ‘Leaders of Change’ initiative for nature lovers. If you are adventurous in spirit then these field activities are just for you.

1. Escape Room: Mangrove Edition

Step into the world of climate change and mangrove restoration to enjoy an immersive escape room adventure! The “Mangrove Edition” Escape Room, is built around the compelling message that “Nature is a powerful ally in the fight against climate change”. Immerse yourself in the world of climate resilience as you step into our innovative escape room, set in a virtual mangrove forest. Discover the indispensable role mangroves play in safeguarding our environment from the impacts of climate change.

2. Nature at Night

Discover what the wildlife gets up to under the cover of darkness to survey the desert and its nocturnal fauna and assess the challenges to nature. In this cool NEW adventure, you will set out to discover nature after sunset, explore your surroundings, and help the team map our biodiversity by spotting some of UAE’s natural nocturnal inhabitants. You will be joining a team of experts to survey the scorpions, identify bats and listen for owls.

3. Bithnah’s Moringa Mission: Nurturing the Future

Shua tress (Moringa tree), often referred to as the “Miracle Tree” or “Tree of Life,” is a remarkable plant known for its numerous health benefits and nutritional value. Join the team Al Bithnah to plant these Shua trees and be part of an enduring legacy that not only connects us with our past but also ensures a sustainable future for generations to come! This is your opportunity to contribute to a greener, more sustainable future.

4. Al Qidfa Litter Spotter: Lose the Litter

Join the Qidfa Litter Spotter Clean-Up Event and be a part of something bigger. It’s more than a clean-up. You can contribute to research on the amount and type of single use plastics and other waste entering the environment throughout the year. Data is reported to researchers and policy makers, helping them to take action, and formulate new regulations and provide recommendations to leaders.

5. Survive the Wild

Learn about the essential survival skills needed when you are out in nature and how to be considerate of nature around you. You are lost in the wild with no help around, what actions are you taking to ensure your survival? In this activity you will learn the skills needed to survive harsh environmental conditions and emergency situations from starting a fire to finding and purifying water that you can drink.

6. Track Terrestrial Wildlife (with Cameras)

Join this once-in-a-lifetime hike deep into the UAE mountains alongside EN-WWF conservationists. You will have the opportunity to help install and check on the technology that they use to monitor terrestrial wildlife – species like birds, bats and animals that live on land. Keep your eyes open, you may even spot some an elusive bird or animal during your adventure.

7. Planting for the Planet

Join the team for an exclusive mangrove planting session. You may help to monitor the biodiversity and record wild plants in the area, count crabs and their burrows, the number of snails in a sample area, the number of species of birds seen throughout the day, signs of insect pollinators and pests. You will assist a team of scientists to plant mangroves and collect biodiversity information while planting mangroves in Khor Al Yeefrah, Umm Al Quwain.

8. Kayak 4 Conservation [Abu Dhabi]

Join the team to kayak through the mangrove forest to an island and learn about the cultural and ecological importance of mangroves, the threats they face and how we can work together to ensure their resilience. Contribute to research on the amount and type of single use plastics and other waste entering the marine environment throughout the year.
