Starbucks Donates $3M to World Central Kitchen for Gaza
Sat 20 Apr 2024Kuwait: The Kuwait-based AlShaya Group, the regional operator of Starbucks in the Middle East and North Africa, has pledged $3 million to support World Central Kitchen’s relief efforts in Gaza. This donation, announced recently, aims to provide one million meals to those affected by the recent conflict.
AlShaya Group, which oversees around 1,900 Starbucks stores in the region, has also introduced an initiative to match employee donations, further bolstering food aid efforts in Gaza.
Expressing solidarity, AlShaya stated, “We grieve with World Central Kitchen’s team in Gaza and their families around the world. As the organization takes the time to reevaluate when its operations will resume in the region, our commitment remains unwavering.”

This commitment follows a tragic incident earlier this month when seven aid workers from World Central Kitchen lost their lives in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza. While the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have acknowledged errors, World Central Kitchen has called for an independent investigation to ensure accountability and systemic change.
World Central Kitchen emphasized the need for an impartial commission to thoroughly investigate the deaths and implement necessary changes.
Despite the challenges, AlShaya Group stands in solidarity with World Central Kitchen and remains committed to humanitarian relief efforts in Gaza. Their pledge underscores the importance of supporting communities affected by conflict and providing essential aid during times of crisis.
