UAE-Oman railway project brings environmental benefits by reducing carbon dioxide emissions
Wed 24 Apr 2024Abu Dhabi: Mohammed bin Zahran Al Mahruqi, Deputy CEO of Hafeet Rail company, emphasized the significance of the UAE-Oman railway project in revolutionizing transportation and fostering new sectors’ growth.
While speaking to agencies, Al Mahruqi highlighted the project’s environmental benefits, anticipating an 80 percent reduction in carbon emissions compared to trucks.
The partnership agreement signed between Etihad Rail, Oman Rail, and Mubadala Investment Company marks the project’s official commencement and construction kickoff.
Al Mahruqi underscored the focus on empowering national cadres and contractors through agreements with Trojan Construction Group and Galfar Engineering and Contracting, aligning with the project’s vision.
Furthermore, agreements with Siemens and HIC Corporation ensure the deployment of cutting-edge control and communication systems, enhancing safety and efficiency with the latest European Train Control System.
The joint railway project aims to bolster bilateral ties, with a passenger sector accommodating up to 400 passengers per train and freight trains facilitating trade with a capacity of 15,000 tonnes of goods.
Passenger trains are set to travel at 200 kilometers per hour, reducing travel time between Sohar and Abu Dhabi to 100 minutes, while freight trains will cover the distance in about 120 minutes, enhancing connectivity and trade between the two countries.
